Weddings By Malissa was opened in May 2005 and will be celebrating ten years of planning destination weddings here in Barbados in 2015.  It began with the creative mind of owner and Managing Director Malissa Blackman. She wanted to create an impressive wedding firm specializing in luxury weddings where Brides from around the world can come to Barbados and have the most luxurious wedding experience in paradise.  It is very important to Malissa that her brides plan their destination wedding in a friendly environment and not have an impersonal experience planning it.

Malissa wanted the name to make her brides feel comfortable and reassured that with her and her amazing team planning their wedding it will be a day filled with special memories.  Fresh out of college in Miami, Malissa was ready to conquer the world and started working in the Barbados Tourism Industry in Barbados in 2001, and in 2004 with her knowledge of the Barbados Tourism Industry and her work relationships she created with her passion of making clients happy she decided to enter into the wedding industry in Barbados.

Malissa started off Weddings By Malissa as a part time career and went full time in 2005 and every year since then the company has grown continuously and had a full expansion on December 19^th, 2009 when Weddings By Malissa became incorporated.  Following this her skillful and talented team, those being: Tanya Franco her Head Wedding Consultant and Manager, Jessica Foster her Accounts Officer and Melanie Weekes who looks after all of the social media and blogs for the company.  With this team, they have been able to cater to their clients’ specific needs for their special day.

In May 2012 Malissa became a certified wedding planner by the Wedding Planners Institute of Canada (WPICC). Since obtaining her certification she has been a guest speaker at WPICC training sessions in Barbados. As a guest speaker at the institution, Malissa shares her knowledge, experiences and achievements with fellow colleagues to help better the booming industry. 

In October 2012, Malissa raised the bar again by starting her own bridal magazine called brideLIFE Magazine. The Magazine is a showcase of what Barbados’ wedding industry has to offer as a destination-wedding venue in the Caribbean. Bridelife magazine provides international recognition of peers within the industry. It is important to know that right here on our little island, we have the vendors and talent they need to have a successful wedding. 

In July 2014 Malissa was appointed as the Chairman for the Romance Product Club for the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Authority (BHTA) where she is responsible to ensure that the Barbados destination wedding, honeymoon and romance product is marketed and sold efficiently in the international sector.

Malissa and her team have created an amazing service where brides can now do everything for their destination wedding and holiday, and every detail can be customized to their specific needs and budgets.  Her expert advise and achievements thus far has taken her to new heights and with luxury international planning firms taking notice, she has had the opportunity to work with David Beahm Designs and 4pm Events here in Barbados.
