Destination Wedding- Barbados!

Barbados is considered one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean to get married, with our crystal clear waters and white sands who could want anything else? Many of our clients always ask to incorporate some part of the Bajan culture into their wedding, whether it be a little gift for their guests to take back home with them or even the florals and decor they use. It is such a good idea to merge different cultural elements especially when having a destination wedding in Barbados. Here are 7 ways to incorporate a bit of our island into your special day:

  • Music- Steel Pan is a great way to use Bajan/ Caribbean music for your wedding. Steel pan is the perfect compliment for a casual beach ceremony and also for your cocktail hour whilst you sip on rumpunch and watch the sunset on our beautiful coastline.

  • Food & Beverage- There are so many options when it comes to food and beverage and incorporating the Bajan cuisine. Since flying fish and cou cou is Barbados' National Dish; you can use flying fish and chips instead of cod and chips as a late night snack. We would also suggest using fresh fish in your menu and of course some rumpunch and Bajan lemonade are the perfect addition to your selection at the bar.

  • Florals- Many brides like to have a tropical theme for their destination wedding in Barbados. A simple way to bring in this theme would be to use tropical flowers found on the island such as ginger lillies, anthiriums and orchids. These flowers can be used in your bouquet, centerpieces and even for your ceremony. You can either use all tropical flowers or blend tropical and imported florals.

  • Location- There are so many location options for your wedding in Barbados. Of course one of the most popular is the beach. Beach weddings are great for your photographs and you definitely get a sense of the island with a beach wedding. Not only is there a beach option but Barbados has many gorgeous and magical gardens and villas for your big day.

  • Wedding Decor- A few decor elements that scream Barbadian culture would be shells, sand, sea glass, sand dollars and the list goes on. You can use any of these items to accentuate your decor or be the main theme.

  • Entertainment- There are the stilit men, fire eaters, mother sally, calypso dancers, monkeys and many more entertainment options for your wedding day or even a fun welcome party.

  • Wedding Favours- This is one of the best ways to use Bajan culture in your wedding; as your guests get to leave with "a piece" of the island. Some great ideas are mini rum bottles, shell bottle openers/corks or even local treats such as sugar cakes and guava cheese.

Hope these ideas help you when deciding how to merge the magical Barbadian culture and heritage into your big day so you can remember it for years to come!
